A power steering system uses hydraulic pressure to assist the driver in turning the wheels. The system consists of a pump that pressurizes hydraulic fluid and a series of hoses that carry the fluid to the steering gear.

The power steering hoses can be classified as high pressure or low pressure hoses. The high pressure hose carries the pressurized fluid from the power steering pump to the steering gear. It is typically made of a reinforced synthetic rubber material and has a high burst strength to withstand the high pressure of the fluid. The high pressure hose usually has threaded fittings at both ends to connect it to the pump and steering gear.

The low pressure hose carries the fluid back to the power steering pump after it has been used to assist the driver in turning the wheels. It is typically made of a thinner, more flexible rubber material and has a lower burst strength than the high pressure hose. The low pressure hose usually has simple push-on fittings at both ends to connect it to the pump and steering gear.

It is important to ensure that the correct hose is used for each application to prevent leaks or failures in the power steering system. If a high pressure hose fails, it can cause a loss of power steering assist and make it difficult to turn the wheels. A low pressure hose failure is less critical but can still result in a leak and a loss of fluid from the system.

High and low-pressure power steering hoses can typically be distinguished by their location and size.

The high-pressure hose is usually smaller in diameter and runs from the power steering pump to the steering gear or steering rack. This hose is designed to withstand the high pressure that is generated by the power steering pump, which can reach up to 1,500 PSI (pounds per square inch).

The low-pressure hose is typically larger in diameter and runs from the steering gear or steering rack to the power steering pump. This hose carries the lower pressure fluid from the steering gear back to the pump.

In addition to their location and size, the high-pressure hose may also have a metal braided covering or reinforced with wire to withstand the high-pressure conditions, whereas the low-pressure hose is usually made of rubber or synthetic materials.

High/Low pressure power steering hoses are designed to carry high-pressure fluid from the power steering pump to the steering gear or steering rack. Here are the steps to use them:
1.First, you need to locate the high-pressure hose. This hose is usually made of a thick rubber material with metal fittings on either end.
2.Identify the high-pressure fitting on the power steering pump and connect one end of the high-pressure hose to it.
3.Connect the other end of the high-pressure hose to the steering gear or steering rack. Make sure to tighten the fittings securely to prevent leaks.
4.Locate the low-pressure hose. This hose is usually made of a thinner rubber material and has clamps or fittings on either end.
5.Connect one end of the low-pressure hose to the low-pressure fitting on the power steering pump.
6.Connect the other end of the low-pressure hose to the steering gear or steering rack.
7.Once both hoses are connected, fill the power steering reservoir with the recommended fluid and start the engine.
8.Turn the steering wheel back and forth several times to purge any air from the system.
9.Check for leaks around the hose connections and tighten them as necessary.
10.Finally, test the power steering by turning the wheel while the car is stationary and while driving to ensure it is functioning properly.
